Quality Assurance Manager
PURPOSE
Manages all aspects of Process Quality area focusing on providing timely and accurate information to all plant operations and external customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the Quality Assurance area ensuring that accurate results are provided to both plant operations, external customers, and other shareholders.
- Manages the operation of micro testing, analytical testing, and equipment operations.
- Approves purchases of equipment, chemicals and consumable supplies.
- Provides supervision of Chemists and Lab technicians as required.
- Manages and Maintains Food Safety programs (HACCP).
- Manages plant GMP.
- Manages auditing of external wash stations and bulk transfer facilities.
- Leads the development, implementation, and management of the OSHA Lab Safety program.
- Manages outside resources as needed to assist in Quality Assurance and Lab operations.
- Assists with development of automated ways to handle data.
- Assists with resolution to customer shipping and inventory issues.
Direct Supervision: 1-Microbiologist; 1-Chemist; 3-Laboratory Technicians
REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge
- Degree in Chemistry, Biology or related scientific program
- Minimum 5 years experience working in related field.
- In depth knowledge of the sugar refining process
- Experience with general food safety programs such as HACCP and SQF
- Knowledge of applicable federal regulations regarding laboratories and Food Processing plants.
- Knowledge of Environmental Compliance issues as they relate to Product Quality and Assurance.

- Demonstrated well developed management and leadership skills
- Team-based management knowledge and experience required
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must be computer literate with MS Office – Word, Excel
- Ability to prepare and work with departmental budgets.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a manufacturing plant environment. Exposure to high temperatures, moving machinery, moving equipment, heights and confined spaces.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to speak and communicate verbally with others.
- Ability to utilize basic office equipment.
- Ability to climb to heights above 30 ft.
